Hey all, if you are looking at this post you are probably thinking 'Jo this is not a picture of food, what the heck have you been doing all month?' Well for those of you who live under a rock, the month of March is big in college for one reason and one reason only: Spring Break. My month of March this year consisted of two trips that have literally made me do a 180 in my goals and aspirations.
A few days after my beach holiday, I was hoping into a van with 15 other people and heading off the the Windy City. Yes A week after spring break I was missing school to go tour some of Chicago's best media outlets. This trip was sponsored by the same organization that I went to Atlanta with: Diversity Student Leaders Society. I was on a vacation high staying in nice hotels, dining with professionals for free and meeting CEOs that have the jobs that I want. I told y'all that I wanted to make 2017 my year and these two trips were giving me just that! We also got the chance to explore the city on our own which included us going to the mile mall and Chinatown. I was having so much fun I almost forgot to do my homework while on the trip (don't tell my mom haha).
The one thing that I gained through my two trips was the book pictured above. In my previous post I discussed my small setback that made me want to do things different this year. Well part of that setback was because I felt that I didn't truly know what I was going to do for my career. After Miami I spent a few days at home in Memphis trying to get some days of peace before I returned to school. One of those days I decided to be productive and figure out my next few steps for the future. While visiting my best friends at the University of Memphis, I slipped into the Meeman Journalism Building to visit Professor Pamela Denney. After sitting with her for an hour discussing my love for journalism but also my need for a niche in the field, she gave me 'Will Write for Food' and told me to keep pursing my interests and the lines between that and a job would blur soon one day. So to sum all of that up into the point I was making: this blog will continue and I hope you all will stay with me during my journey. Hopefully one day I will get to write about food in a professional setting.
