I honestly say the title of this post everyday. It has already been a month since I walked across the stage and received my bachelors degree and it still doesn't feel real. I feel as if I have been home for months (an amazing feeling to have!!) and I have met so many more people. Let's get into what I have been doing for the past four weeks.
Friends I finally did it, I graduated!! It took forever (mostly because of my procrastination) but I designed and decorated my own cap. That was an achievement in itself. May 12th was a great day filled with rushing (as always), celebration, and family. I felt on top of the world with all the love and gifts I was showered with. And of course the highlight of the day was finally getting to step on that dang seal that I had been avoiding for four years!! I'm not really into superstitions but I wasn't going to test that one haha! The rest of the day was spent having fun and enjoying my last day in Knoxville for a while. All the real fun began when I got home.
I started my job search by heading back to Tri-State to see about interning there again for the summer. Well I got a surprise from Dr. K; after talking to him about what I have been doing since I left them in August, he offered me a freelance position at the paper!! I was so shocked and happy, this would be a great way for me to look for jobs and keep advancing in my writing. I have done four articles so far, all published and all underneath my journalist tab.
Even though I have this position I know it isn't something that will keep me satisfied. I want to learn more about the print business and help it succeed in this new age media world. People know I love writing but I am a work in progress that still has plenty of room to grow. I have been looking all over the place for jobs. I feel as though my mom wants me to just get any old communication job. I want to add to a staff not hinder it, and I also don't want to take a job from someone else who is better suited for it. All I can do is keep trying and moving forward despite rejections.
Outside my looking for employment, my time home has been spent with friends and family. Since I've been home my best friends Maury, Kennedy and Kaylee have had me out and about almost every day. I have met so many new and old greeks. I am learning that not everyone perceives being greek the same way I do but we all in some way respect each other and uplift one another for the love of the NPHC community. Yes there are a few bad points, like the social media stuff and overall misconceptions that people still carry out. Besides those little pesky moments, I love my DST and community. From the pool party, movies outings, random house gatherings to the service projects, strolls/ steps in the street and meetings, I am already seeing the lifetime commitment at work.
Now that I have gotten into a rhythm with my days I am now working to get a little bit healthier in my eating, with the occasional guilty pleasures here and there. I have been working out, buying more fruits and vegetables and choosing water over juice and soda. We shall see what the outcome is soon. I am also planning for July, my birthday month and a time of traveling (stay tuned for that). Don't want to make you all reach too much more. I'll be back soon with some summer recipes and more updates on post grad life. Until then enjoy this heat!!
